Target Information
CD25 (IL2 receptor alpha chain / IL2RA) is a cytokine receptor involved in T and B lymphocyte proliferation. The IL2 receptor complex consists of IL2RA, IL2RB, and IL2RG, forming a high-affinity receptor. Homodimeric IL2RA chains result in low-affinity receptors, while IL2RB homodimers yield medium-affinity receptors. IL2 expression in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, enabling precise gene regulation. IL2, primarily produced by mature T cells, functions as a growth and differentiation factor and regulates cell death. It stimulates B cell proliferation, enhances natural killer cell activity, and inhibits granulocyte macrophage colony formation. In mice, disruption of a similar gene leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, indicating its role in immune response regulation. Mutations in this gene are associated with interleukin 2 receptor alpha deficiency.
