Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of the CD4 antigen, a 55 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on a subset of T lymphocytes (“helper” T-cells), as well as on monocytes, tissue macrophages, and granulocytes.
Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper cells but may also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
At the tissue level, CD4 expression occurs in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut.
CD4 plays a key role in T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
