Target Information
This gene encodes a protein that is a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex found in the nucleus of human cells. It has broad expression across many tissues and is part of a small gene family involved in transcriptional regulation, either directly or indirectly through chromatin remodeling.
It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both proteins share similar domains, including DNA-binding domains, a dimerization domain, and a methyltransferase-related domain. One known target of this gene product is p53, where deacetylation correlates with reduced growth inhibition in transformed cells, suggesting a link between these gene family members and metastasis.
