Target Information
USP21 encodes a member of the C19 peptidase family (ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolases).
This protein cleaves ubiquitin from ubiquitinated proteins for recycling during intracellular protein degradation and can also release NEDD8 from NEDD8-conjugated proteins.
Previously referred to as USP16 and USP23, it is now known as USP21.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
