Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of eukaryotic chromatin.
Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer around which ~146 bp of DNA wraps, creating nucleosomes.
Histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes, aiding chromatin compaction.
The H4 gene is intronless, lacks a polyA tail, and includes a palindromic termination element.
Located within the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6.
