Target Information
SUPV3L1 is a major helicase involved in mitochondrial RNA metabolism. It forms part of the mitochondrial degradosome (mtEXO) complex, which degrades 3′ overhang double-stranded RNA in an ATP-dependent 3′-to-5′ direction.
It participates in the degradation of non-coding mitochondrial transcripts (MT-ncRNA) and tRNA-like molecules. SUPV3L1 functions as an ATPase and multisubstrate helicase, unwinding dsDNA, dsRNA, and RNA/DNA hybrids in the 5′-to-3′ direction.
It plays a role in mitochondrial RNA surveillance, regulating mRNA stability and removal of aberrant transcripts, and is implicated in recombination and chromatin maintenance. The protein may also protect cells from apoptosis and associates with mitochondrial DNA. [UniProt]
