Target Information

SMAD2 (MADH2, MAD2) regulates multiple cellular processes including proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. It interacts with TGF-beta receptors via SMAD anchor for receptor activation (SARA) and plays a central role in TGF-beta signaling. Upon phosphorylation, SMAD2 dissociates from SARA and associates with SMAD4, enabling nuclear translocation and transcriptional regulation. It can also be phosphorylated by activin type 1 receptor kinase, mediating activin signaling. Alternative splicing variants encoding SMAD2 have been observed.
