Target Information

Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, particularly during late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It contains a forkhead-associated (FHA) domain that mediates association with euchromatin at the perichromosomal layer, centromeric heterochromatin, and nucleolus.
Ki-67 shows cell cycle-dependent distribution: perinucleolar expression in G1, nuclear matrix localization in G2, and chromosomal association during mitosis.
As a proliferation marker, Ki-67 is absent in G0 cells and increases from G1 through mitosis. Ki-67 antibodies are valuable for determining the growth fraction in neoplasms, with prognostic value comparable to thymidine-labeling indices. Low Ki-67 index correlates with histologically low-grade tumors. It is routinely used as a neuronal marker for cell cycling and proliferation.
