Target Information

Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, particularly during late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It contains a forkhead-associated (FHA) domain that mediates association with euchromatin at the perichromosomal layer, centromeric heterochromatin, and the nucleolus.
Ki-67 shows cell cycle-dependent localization: perinucleolar at G1, nuclear matrix-associated at G2, and chromosome-associated during M phase.
As it is absent in G0 cells and increases from G1 through mitosis, Ki-67 serves as a reliable marker for cellular proliferation.
Ki-67 antibodies are valuable for determining the growth fraction in neoplasms, with prognostic relevance comparable to the thymidine-labeling index. Low Ki-67 index correlates strongly with histologically low-grade tumors.
It is routinely used as a neuronal marker for cell cycling and proliferation.
