Target Information
The MEF2D gene belongs to the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) family of transcription factors. Members of this family regulate muscle and neuronal cell differentiation and development, and are modulated by class II histone deacetylases. Fusions of MEF2D with DAZAP1 have been observed in acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines, suggesting a role in leukemogenesis. The encoded protein may also be implicated in Parkinson’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Multiple transcript variants are produced through alternative splicing.
