Target Information
L3MBTL1 is the human homolog of a Drosophila protein that suppresses malignant transformation of neuroblasts and ganglion-mother cells in the optic centers of the brain. It localizes to condensed chromosomes during mitosis, and overexpression can lead to multinucleated cells due to improper nuclear segregation and cytokinesis. L3MBTL1 is a polycomb group gene product involved in chromatin modification and gene activity regulation. It specifically binds mono- and dimethyllysine residues, acting as a reader of post-translational modifications. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
