Product Specific Information
The immunogen sequence is 100% homologous with mouse and 94% homologous with rat GAD67.
Suggested positive control: Antigen standard for GAD1 (transient overexpression lysate), SK-N-SH.
Target Information
GAD-65 and GAD-67 belong to the group II decarboxylase family and catalyze the rate-limiting step in the production of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) from L-glutamic acid.
- Both are found in the brain.
- GAD-65 localizes to synaptic vesicle membranes in nerve terminals.
- GAD-67 is distributed throughout the cell and responsible for basal GABA synthesis.
- During increased neurotransmission demand, GAD-65 transiently activates to assist in GABA production.
- Loss of GAD-65 impairs GABA neurotransmission; loss of GAD-67 is lethal.
- Two isoforms exist due to alternative splicing: GAD-67 (predominant) and GAD-25 (minor).
