Apolipoprotein E (Apo E)는 혈장 내 지질 대사에 중요한 역할을 하며, 다양한 혈장 지질단백질 복합체의 구성 성분입니다. 이 단백질은 간, 뇌, 비장, 신장에서 합성되며, 간질액에서 높은 농도로 존재하여 콜레스테롤의 세포 간 이동을 조절합니다. 또한 매우 낮은 밀도의 지단백(VLDL)과 킬로미크론의 형성에도 관여합니다. Apo E 유전자는 염색체 19의 19q13.2 위치에 존재합니다.
