Target Information

Forkhead-box J1 (FOXJ1) is a 421-amino acid transcription factor that suppresses T cell activity and spontaneous autoimmunity through repression of NF-κB activity. It also inhibits humoral immune responses in B cells. FOXJ1 deficiency leads to spontaneous germinal center formation, development of pathogenic autoantibodies, and enhanced responses to immunizations.
Abnormal FOXJ1 expression may be associated with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. FOXJ1 is required for cilia formation and left-right axis determination by increasing calpastatin expression, which is necessary for basal body anchoring to the apical cytoskeleton. FOXJ1 expression may serve as an early marker of epithelial differentiation and recovery.
