Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that plays a major role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein. The gene encodes a fusion protein with ubiquitin at the N terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C terminus. After expression, the protein is post-translationally processed to generate free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a, a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Ribosomal protein S27a contains C4-type zinc finger domains and is located in the cytoplasm. Related pseudogenes exist in the genome. Similar fusion proteins include ribosomal protein L40 (with ubiquitin) and ribosomal protein S30 (with ubiquitin-like fubi). Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
