Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs).
hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus, influencing pre-mRNA processing and other aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport.
While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm.
The hnRNP M protein contains three quasi-RRM domains that bind RNAs and acts as a monomer of an N-acetylglucosamine-specific receptor involved in selective recycling of immature GlcNAc-bearing thyroglobulin molecules.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
