Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are members of the SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family. They form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation, ensuring proper segregation of genetic information during cell division.
The hCAP-C/hCAP-E complex, known as condensin, interacts with phosphorylated Histone H3 to promote chromosome condensation.
Distinct distribution patterns of the two heterodimeric complexes in the interphase nucleus indicate independent roles during the cell cycle, suggesting involvement in different aspects of mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
