Target Information

The TSG6 gene is expressed in normal fibroblasts and activated by cytokines TNF-α and IL-1 at AP-1 and NF-IL6 promoter sites.
TSG-6 is a glycoprotein belonging to the hyaluronan-binding protein family, including cartilage link protein, proteoglycan core protein, and CD44.
It is highly homologous to CD44, especially in the hyaluronic acid-binding domain.
TSG-6 expression is induced by TNF-α, IL-1, and lipopolysaccharide in fibroblasts, PBMCs, synovial cells, and chondrocytes.
Presence in synovial fluid suggests a role in rheumatoid arthritis.
TSG-6 forms a stable complex with the serine protease inhibitor inter-alpha-inhibitor (IαI), enhancing its inhibitory effect on plasmin activity.
Together, TSG-6 and IαI modulate protease networks and inhibit inflammation.
