Target Information
FABP5 (fatty acid binding protein 5, psoriasis-associated) is a cytoplasmic protein encoded by the FABP5 gene (also known as PAFABP, EFABP, E-FABP, KFABP, PA-FABP). It belongs to a family of small, highly conserved proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. The FABP5 cDNA encodes a 135-amino acid protein (~15.1 kDa) found in epidermal cells and is upregulated in psoriasis tissue. FABP5 is involved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. Kaczocha et al. (2009) reported that FABP5 and FABP7 transport AEA to fatty acid amide hydrolase for hydrolysis, unlike FABP3.
