SMN 복합체는 작은 핵 리보핵단백질(snRNP)의 조립에서 촉매 역할을 하며, 이는 스플라이소솜의 구성 요소입니다.
이 과정은 세포 내 pre-mRNA의 스플라이싱에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
대부분의 스플라이소솜 snRNP는 공통 Sm 단백질(SNRPB, SNRPD1, SNRPD2, SNRPD3, SNRPE, SNRPF, SNRPG)을 포함하며, 이들은 작은 핵 RNA의 Sm 부위에 결합하여 핵심 snRNP를 형성합니다.
세포질에서 Sm 단백질은 CLNS1A 샤페론에 의해 6S pICln-Sm 복합체 형태로 비활성 상태로 존재하며, SMN 복합체는 CLNS1A를 해리시키고 Sm 단백질을 SMN-Sm 복합체로 전달하여 핵심 snRNP 조립과 핵 내 수송을 유도합니다.
