Target Information
Ran/TC4-binding protein (RanBP1) interacts specifically with GTP-charged RAN. The RANBP1 gene encodes a 23 kDa protein that binds to RAN complexed with GTP but not GDP. Although RanBP1 does not activate the GTPase activity of RAN, it significantly enhances GTP hydrolysis by RanGAP1. The human RANBP1 protein consists of 201 amino acids and shares 92% similarity with its mouse homolog. In both mammalian and yeast cells, RanBP1 acts as a negative regulator of RCC1 by inhibiting RCC1-stimulated guanine nucleotide release from RAN.
