Target Information

Damage-regulated autophagy modulator (DRAM) is a p53 target gene encoding a lysosomal protein that induces autophagy, a process that degrades cytosolic proteins and organelles. Activation of DRAM by p53 occurs simultaneously with activation of proapoptotic genes such as PUMA and Bax, together promoting a full cell death response.
DRAM alone cannot induce apoptosis, but its inactivation in certain cancers highlights its importance and suggests that autophagy may play a more significant role in cancer than initially suspected.
At least two isoforms of DRAM are known to exist.
