Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of ELK1 only when phosphorylated at Serine 383.

Target Information

ELK1 is a component of the ternary complex that binds the serum response element (SRE) and mediates gene activity in response to serum and growth factors. It is phosphorylated by MAP kinase pathways at a cluster of serine/threonine motifs at its C-terminus. Phosphorylation at these sites, particularly Ser383, is critical for transcriptional activation by ELK1. ELK1 serves as a direct target of activated MAP kinase. Studies indicate ELK1 is a good substrate for MAP kinase, and its phosphorylation correlates with MAP kinase activity. Mutants of MAP kinase can block ELK1 activation in vivo. ELK1 acts as a nuclear target for the Ras-Raf-MAPK signaling cascade. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
