Specificity Comments:
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are a family of proteins that stimulate proliferation of mesenchymal, epithelial, and neuroectodermal cells. Members include FGF-1 through FGF-23, sharing 30–55% amino acid sequence identity. FGFs bind to specific tyrosine kinase receptors such as FGFR-1 (Flg), FGFR-2 (Bek), TKF, and FGFR-3, mediating cell growth and differentiation.
Target Information
The FGF23 gene encodes a member of the fibroblast growth factor family involved in diverse biological processes such as embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
FGF23 inhibits renal tubular phosphate transport and mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets and familial tumoral calcinosis. Overexpression is linked to oncogenic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia.
