Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members have broad mitogenic and cell survival activities and are involved in biological processes such as embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth, and invasion.
FGF23 inhibits renal tubular phosphate transport and has been linked to autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets, an inherited phosphate-wasting disorder. Elevated expression of this gene is also associated with oncogenic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia and familial tumoral calcinosis with hyperphosphatemia.
