Alpha Tubulin은 α 및 β tubulin 소단위로 구성된 heterodimer의 일부로, 미세소관(microtubule)의 기본 구성 단위입니다. α-β tubulin heterodimer는 거의 모든 진핵세포에서 존재하며, 세포 내 구조적 지지 및 수송 경로를 제공하고, 유사분열 과정에서 핵심적인 역할을 합니다.
미세소관은 세포골격의 필수적이고 다양한 기능을 수행하며, γ tubulin은 미세소관 형성의 핵심적인 핵화 단계에 관여합니다. α 및 β tubulin 유전자는 종 간에 매우 보존되어 있으며, α tubulin을 암호화하는 유전자는 mouse 및 rat Tuba1 유전자와 높은 유사성을 가집니다. Northern blotting 연구에 따르면 이 유전자의 발현은 형태학적으로 분화된 신경세포에서 주로 발견됩니다.
