Target Information
Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) stimulate proliferation of mesenchymal, epithelial, and neuroectodermal cells. FGF3 is part of the heparin-binding growth factor family, which includes FGF1 (aFGF), FGF2 (bFGF), FGF3 (Int2), and FGF4 (hst/Kaposi FGF). FGF4 was first identified as an oncoprotein in Kaposi’s sarcoma cells. Other family members include FGF5–FGF10. FGF3 can be activated by proviral insertion of mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) and is implicated in breast malignancies.
