Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid F-box motif. F-box proteins are subunits of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex, functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. They are classified into three types:

  • Fbws: Containing WD-40 domains
  • Fbls: Containing leucine-rich repeats
  • Fbxs: Containing other interaction modules or no recognizable motifs

The encoded protein belongs to the Fbws class and contains multiple WD-40 repeats. It is homologous to Xenopus bTrCP1, yeast Met30, Neurospora Scon2, and Drosophila Slimb proteins. It interacts with HIV-1 Vpu, connecting CD4 to the proteolytic machinery, and associates with phosphorylated IkappaBalpha and beta-catenin destruction motifs. It likely functions in transcriptional regulation by activating NF-kappaB and inhibiting beta-catenin pathways.
