Product Specific Information

MA1-43016 detects Protein C in human samples.
MA1-43016 has successfully been used in ELISA applications.
MA1-43016 was derived from human protein C.

Target Information

Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein that is cleaved to its activated form by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex.
Activated Protein C contains a serine protease domain and functions in degradation of activated coagulation factors V and VIII.
Protein C is produced in the liver and composed of two polypeptide chains. The 62 kDa proenzyme is activated by thrombin bound to an endothelial surface receptor, and the active enzyme (55 kDa) cleaves factor Va and VIIIa, thus inhibiting blood coagulation.
Normal concentrations in human plasma are approximately 1–3 ng/mL for the active enzyme and ~3 µg/mL for the proenzyme.
Mutations in the Protein C gene are associated with thrombophilia due to protein C deficiency, neonatal purpura fulminans, and recurrent venous thrombosis.
