Target Information

LIMK1 is a serine/threonine kinase involved in regulation of actin cytoskeletal changes via phosphorylation of cofilin. It also plays a role in brain development. LIM domains are highly conserved cysteine-rich structures containing two zinc fingers. While zinc fingers often bind DNA or RNA, the LIM motif likely mediates protein–protein interactions. LIM kinase-1 and LIM kinase-2 form a subfamily characterized by two N-terminal LIM motifs and a C-terminal kinase domain. LIMK1 may participate in intracellular signaling pathways and has been associated with cognitive impairment in Williams syndrome due to hemizygosity.
