Target Information
This gene encodes a member of a family of translation repressor proteins. The protein interacts with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a key component in recruiting 40S ribosomal subunits to mRNA. Interaction with eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation. Upon phosphorylation (e.g., by UV or insulin signaling), the protein dissociates from eIF4E, activating mRNA translation.
