Target Information
Adipose tissue plays a major role in regulating metabolic and immune processes by producing and secreting bioactive molecules called adipokines.
The CTRP family (C1q/TNF-alpha-related proteins) 1–7 are structural and functional paralogs of adiponectin/ACRP30, expressed in various tissues.
These proteins mainly act on liver and muscle to regulate glucose and lipid metabolism.
Crystal structure analysis of adiponectin suggests a structural and evolutionary link between TNF and C1q-containing proteins, indicating a common ancestral gene related to innate immunity.
Multiple isoforms of mouse CTRP4 have been reported.
