Product Specific Information
This antibody binds the amino acids 318–510 in the S1 domain of the SARS-CoV Spike protein as well as SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Spike protein. It also binds to P462L-substituted S318–510 fragments of the SARS spike protein.
Target Information
The SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, has a spike protein composed of two subunits, S1 and S2.
- The S1 subunit binds to the human ACE2 receptor, initiating viral entry and host cell recognition.
- The SARS-CoV S1 protein, which mediated ACE2 binding during the 2002–2003 SARS outbreak, shares high similarity with SARS-CoV-2 S1, though sequence differences may affect binding affinity.
- Both spike proteins have a trimeric structure, with each subunit containing two domains: the N-terminal domain (NTD) and the receptor-binding domain (RBD).
- The RBD binds directly to the ACE2 receptor, while the NTD participates in recognition of other host factors.
