This FB12 monoclonal antibody reacts with human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG). hCG is a secreted glycoprotein composed of a common alpha subunit (shared with LH, FSH, and TSH) and a specific beta subunit that determines hormonal specificity.
FB12 recognizes both intact hCG (alpha + beta subunits) and the free beta subunit, which are highly expressed in choriocarcinoma and the serum of pregnant women.
hCG is expressed by trophoblastoid cells (syncytiotrophoblasts and extravillous cytotrophoblasts) that maintain the corpus luteum during early gestation. It regulates angiogenesis via the PI3K/mTOR pathway, upregulating VEGF.
Ectopic expression of hCG has been reported in cancers such as bladder, lung, breast, pancreas, and renal carcinoma.
Applications Reported: Western blotting, immunohistochemical staining of frozen tissue sections (IHC-F), ELISA, and immunocytochemistry (ICC).

The alpha subunit is common within a species, while the beta subunit confers receptor and biological specificity.
