Product Specific Information

MA5-15401 was tested in indirect ELISA and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of PGR (aa731–909) expressed in E. coli.

Target Information

The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. It mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, a hormone central to reproductive events such as pregnancy establishment and maintenance.
PR exists as two isoforms:

  • Form A (94 kDa)
  • Form B (120 kDa)

PR-B is transcriptionally active, responsible for activating genes related to endometrial maintenance, pregnancy, and inhibition of ovulation.
PR-A differs by a 165 amino acid deletion at the N-terminus, exposing an inhibitory domain that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.

In its inactive state, PR forms a multiprotein complex with heat shock proteins and immunophilins. Upon progesterone binding, the receptor undergoes conformational change, dimerizes, and binds to progesterone response elements (PRE), leading to activated transcription.
A null mutation in the PGR gene results in pleiotropic reproductive abnormalities.
