Target Information
Dystrophin is the 427 kDa protein product of the DMD/BMD gene located on the X chromosome (Xp21). Western blotting and immunohistochemistry are established methods for detecting abnormalities of dystrophin expression in muscle biopsies. Dystrophin abnormalities occur in nearly all patients with DMD/BMD, though genetic mutations may be detected in only about 65% of cases.
