Target Information
Prohibitin is an evolutionarily conserved gene ubiquitously expressed and thought to act as a negative regulator of cell proliferation and potential tumor suppressor. Mutations in PHB have been associated with sporadic breast cancer. It is expressed as two transcripts differing in 3′ untranslated region length; the longer transcript is more abundant in proliferating tissues and may function as a trans-acting regulatory RNA.
