Target Information
Prohibitin is an evolutionarily conserved gene that is ubiquitously expressed and is thought to negatively regulate cell proliferation, potentially acting as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in PHB have been associated with sporadic breast cancer. Prohibitin is expressed as two transcripts with varying 3′ untranslated region lengths; the longer transcript is more abundant in proliferating tissues and may act as a trans-acting regulatory RNA.
