HYOU1은 heat shock protein 70 계열에 속하며, ER 내 단백질 접힘 및 분비 과정에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 단백질 발현 억제 시 세포 사멸이 촉진되므로, 저산소 조건에서 세포 보호 기능을 수행하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 유방암 등 종양에서 발현이 증가하며 종양 침습성과 관련 있습니다. 이 단백질은 ER 및 미토콘드리아에 모두 위치하며, 세포질 내에서도 housekeeping 기능을 수행합니다.
