Napsin 1은 주로 폐에서 발현되는 아스파르트산 프로테아제로, 신장 및 전이성 암 조직에서도 발견됩니다. 정상적인 폐 및 신장 조직에서는 서팩턴트 단백질 B를 처리하지만, 발암 과정에서 비정상적으로 조절됩니다.
Napsin의 발현 평가는 여러 암의 식별 및 원발성 종양과 전이성 종양의 구분에 유용합니다. Thyroid Transcription Factor 분석과 병행 시, 암 유형의 특이적 바이오마커로 활용될 수 있습니다. 또한, 폐포 단백질증 및 신세뇨관의 단백질 대사에도 관련이 있습니다.
