Target Information
SFPQ (also named PSF) encodes a nuclear factor involved in RNA splicing and gene expression regulation. It likely forms a heteromer with NONO and participates in DNA pairing and repair processes. Recent studies identified SFPQ as a downstream target of tau, showing nuclear depletion and cytoplasmic accumulation in neurons and astrocytes of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brains. Reduced SFPQ levels may correlate with tau pathology, suggesting a key role in neurodegenerative diseases including AD. SFPQ protein may appear as 47 kDa, 52 kDa, or 100 kDa forms in various cell types.
