Product Specific Information

HYB 237-01-02 shows specificity for human protein C.
It has been successfully used in immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and Western blot procedures. The antibody reacts strongly with protein C. A strong reaction is observed in catching ELISA when combined with a biotin-labeled antigen against protein C, but only in a tris buffer containing 2.5 mM CaCl₂.
In Western blotting after SDS-PAGE, HYB 237-01-02 reacts with protein C in its non-reduced form only.
Epitope specificity differs from that of HYB 237-05-02.

Target Information

Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein that is activated by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex. The activated form contains a serine protease domain and degrades activated coagulation factors V and VIII.
Protein C is synthesized in the liver and consists of two polypeptide chains. The 62 kDa proenzyme is activated by thrombin bound to an endothelial receptor, forming a 55 kDa active enzyme.
Normal concentrations in human plasma are approximately 1–3 ng/mL for the active enzyme and ~3 µg/mL for the proenzyme.
Mutations in the Protein C gene are associated with thrombophilia due to protein C deficiency, neonatal purpura fulminans, and recurrent venous thrombosis.
