HYB 238-04-02 is specific for human pulmonary SP-A.
It has been successfully used in ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, and Western blot procedures.
In Western blotting after SDS-PAGE, HYB 238-04-02 reacts with reduced forms of SP-A and weaker with non-reduced forms.
In immunohistochemical staining of paraffin-embedded tissue samples, it reacts specifically with human SP-A.
Immunoreactivity is seen with alveolar type II cells, nonciliated bronchial cells, and a subset of alveolar macrophages.
No reactivity is observed in samples from pancreas, intestines, thymus, prostate gland, or peritoneal lining cells.
HYB 238-04-02 reacts strongly with SP-A when tested in ELISA with SP-A directly coated onto the microtiter well.

Target Information

Surfactant protein A (SP-A) is an innate immune system collectin.
The gene encoding SP-A maps to mouse chromosome 14.
SP-A plays a role in innate host defense in the lung and is also expressed in the Eustachian tube.
Differences in surfactant protein-A haplotypes and genotypes have been observed between children with recurrent otitis media and control populations.
