The target sequence has 93% sequence homology with rat, 86% with porcine, and 80% with human.
Target Information
This gene generates several transcript variants differing in their first exons. At least three alternatively spliced variants encode distinct proteins, two of which are CDK4 kinase inhibitors. Another transcript includes an alternate first exon located 20 Kb upstream, encoding an alternate open reading frame (ARF) that specifies a structurally unrelated protein. The ARF product stabilizes tumor suppressor p53 by interacting with and sequestering MDM2, preventing p53 degradation. Despite structural differences, both CDK inhibitor isoforms and ARF share a role in G1 cell cycle control. This gene is frequently mutated or deleted in various tumors and is an important tumor suppressor gene.
