Target Information
The PTCH gene encodes a receptor for sonic hedgehog, desert hedgehog, and indian hedgehog proteins, which are involved in embryonic development and tumorigenesis. This gene functions as a tumor suppressor. Mutations are associated with basal cell nevus syndrome, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, trichoepitheliomas, transitional cell carcinomas of the bladder, and holoprosencephaly. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
