Target Information
LIN-28 is a highly conserved, RNA-binding, cytoplasmic protein composed of a cold shock domain and retroviral-type (CCHC) zinc finger motifs, first identified in Caenorhabditis elegans. It regulates the timing of embryonic development events and is expressed in embryos, embryonic stem cells, and embryonal carcinoma cells. LIN-28 is also present in certain adult tissues such as cardiac and skeletal muscle. In differentiating myoblasts, LIN-28 enhances protein synthesis efficiency and interacts with IGF-II, a growth and differentiation factor.
