Product Specific Information

  • This antibody does not react with Dog or Cat.
  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, epithelial specific antigen, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~40 kDa) expressed in epithelial tissues. It functions as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule and influences cell cycle, proliferation, and metabolism through induction of proto-oncogene c-myc and cyclins A/E.
Ep-CAM-mediated adhesions negatively regulate cadherin-mediated adhesions, impacting epithelial differentiation and growth. Overexpression is associated with enhanced epithelial proliferation and is a marker for tumors of epithelial lineage.
Ep-CAM is expressed on baso-lateral surfaces in most simple epithelia and carcinoma types, and distinguishes adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
