Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses: one utilizes NAD(+) and the other NADP(+). Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported — three NAD(+)-dependent (mitochondrial) and two NADP(+)-dependent (one mitochondrial, one cytosolic).
The NADP(+)-dependent cytoplasmic enzyme contains a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal and plays a role in NADPH regeneration for intraperoxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
