Target Information
The STAT5b protein belongs to the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, forming homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5b mediates signal transduction triggered by ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones. It plays roles in TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and sexual dimorphism of liver gene expression. Abnormal STAT5b signaling has been implicated in acute promyelocytic leukemias (APLL) involving fusion with the RARA gene.
