Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with alpha/beta dimer as well as with the dissociated beta-subunit. DR and DP are the isotypes of human MHC Class II molecules expressed on antigen-presenting cells (APCs), including dendritic cells, B lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages.

Target Information

HLA-DRA is one of the HLA class II alpha chain paralogues. This molecule is a heterodimer consisting of an alpha and a beta chain, both membrane-anchored. It plays a central role in the immune system by presenting peptides derived from extracellular proteins. Class II molecules are expressed in antigen-presenting cells (APCs: B lymphocytes, dendritic cells, macrophages).

The alpha chain is approximately 33–35 kDa and its gene contains 5 exons:

  1. Exon 1 encodes the leader peptide
  2. Exons 2 and 3 encode the two extracellular domains
  3. Exon 4 encodes the transmembrane domain and cytoplasmic tail

DRA lacks polymorphisms in the peptide-binding region and acts as the sole alpha chain for DRB1, DRB3, DRB4, and DRB5.
HLA and MHC antibodies are important in immunopeptidomics, facilitating the identification and characterization of neoantigens using HPLC coupled to tandem mass spectrometry.
